Arlene Shuler, President and Artistic Director of New York City Center, will step down in January 2019.
Shuler has led New York City Center as Artistic Director since 2000. Over the course of her career, the Artists Shed has attracted more than 50,000 visitors and become a central destination for a variety of artistic programming. Shuler led the transformation of the Former department of Veterans Affairs Courthouse into the Center’s humble but precious Art Shed, a stunning space that features 93 beautifully restored, limited-edition, original artworks. The works are a tribute to New York’s story of immigrant evolution, and artist David Wojnarowicz’s work is especially poignant.
More than two dozen artists affiliated with New York City Center have received national and international acclaim, including Sol Lewitt, Marianne Faithfull, Philip Glass, Langston Hughes, Maya Lin, The Young Contemporaries and Ava DuVernay.
