British actor Tom Holland, who made an unexpected appearance in a Marvel Studios trailer for Captain America: Civil War last year, has revealed that he will be playing the late dance legend Fred Astaire.
In a Facebook post, the 21-year-old confirmed the news that a deal has been struck with a production company working with Marvel.
In the wake of confirmation that Donald Glover was cast as William Hart in Captain America: Civil War, Holland also shared that he was working on a deal with Marvel to play the legendary dancer. “A deal’s been made and I’m currently training for a role which is a dream come true for me and one of my idols. Excited to tell you all about it soon.”
The announcement in Holland’s post comes after Glover’s revelation that he was working on a film inspired by Astaire, which will also depict the life of the comedian Bill Cosby. The project, The Apollo 11, which came out recently. and chronicles Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong and his fellow Apollo 11 crew, and will also feature Michael Keaton as Armstrong.
Astaire died in 1982 at the age of 85.
