Police: She was in car with child as owner, pregnant mother, set off for hospital to have her give birth
A six-year-old girl has been found safe and her father who reportedly shot the child’s mother and himself after taking the child away from her has been found.
The Harrisburg Sun-Times reports Daniel Thompson told police he was trying to steal a vehicle outside his girlfriend’s Harrisburg home.
When the child’s mother saw Thompson, 34, had a gun, she reached inside the car and snatched the gun away, police said.
Police said Thompson shot the child’s mother once in the abdomen before opening fire on her once more. The woman’s 15-year-old nephew was struck in the leg during the initial exchange of gunfire.
Police officers found Thompson’s 36-year-old pregnant girlfriend, who had been shot in the foot, hiding in the trunk of the vehicle and tried to persuade him to let her out, said Captain Gabriel Olivera, a Harrisburg police spokesman.
When Thompson refused to get out of the car, officers tried to stop him by making a Taser deployment on him.
When they tried to place him in handcuffs, Thompson pulled a gun from his waistband and fatally shot himself, the spokesman said.
The child’s mother was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the ankle. Police had not yet determined the girl’s condition.
