Now there’s a genetic zombie that no one seems to want to fight.

South Africa has a reputation for disease outbreaks, and over the past decade, doctors have discovered a variety of potentially deadly neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS, that are seemingly caused by a mutation in the so-called ragged brain stem that scientists once thought caused malaria.

Kimberly Guilfoyle said on “Fox & Friends” that South African veterinarians discovered that diseases evolve in the same manner as they do in the brain of infected animals. As our good friend Mike Allen recently reported, the country is now grappling with a mutated strain of deadly disease called encephalitis.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, encephalitis, which also has a rarely deadly side effect in infants, occurs when a virus spreads between two kinds of brain cells.

Henry N. Blodget and Michael Nirenberg, two neuroscientists at the University of California at San Francisco, said in the AP story:

“The discovery has implicated a viral gene, which has never been seen before in these kinds of brain diseases. Scientists say they know that infecting virus genes into humans’ cells kills brain cells, contributing to an illness.”

The FDA is now trying to stem the disease outbreak, warning doctors to be on the lookout for symptoms like fever, nausea, vomiting and weakness.

And some doctors are on board with increasing efforts to kill the mutated virus, but others feel it is best left alone.

“Like any instinctual wild animal, all mammalian immune systems are capable of defense. Only a very small percent of viruses can and will be cleared by the immune system, or else viral infections become even more dangerous and more serious. ‘Creature Commandos’ are not doctors,’” Dr. Robert Beaglehole said on “The Ingraham Angle.”
